Preconditioners, such as a DDC or a triple shaft conditioner, are utilized to moisten and pre-heat the raw materials before extrusion. Fresh meat slurry can be directly injected into the precondtioner at very high levels to improve the product quality. Extruders can produce expanded kibble in many different shapes, sizes, and colors.
